Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Science City located at Rajendra Nagar in Patna has been established by the Department
of Science, Technology and Technical Education (DSTTE).
Vision / Goal:
By a seamless blending of science, technology, and art this Science City aims to:
- Promote scientific temper among the general public
- Inspire, encourage and educate the young minds with hands-on interactive exhibits beyond classrooms
- Dispel / eliminate social superstitions by providing rational scientific explanations of natural phenomena
Gallery 1: Be a Scientist
Sprawling over an area of 410 sq. m, this gallery welcomes you to an awe inspiring and engaging journey through a set
of tangible exhibits to supplement the formal education process. Three constituent zones namely: wonder and amazement,
experiment and analyse and join the community aims to foster the spirit of enquiry and analysis among the young minds
as well as the general public.
As the name suggests, the first zone intends to amaze you by a magnificent installation showcasing how standing wave
patterns are formed on strings, how a spinning carousel depicts the transformations of King Ashoka from
“Ashoka the Fierce” to “Ashoka the Righteous” with the help of animation technology.
In the second zone engage yourself with some hands-on exhibits demonstrating how wave propagates in water generating
ripples or how you can make a stream of water to float or move upward instead of falling down?
Finally, identify the basic traits of a scientist such as curiosity, perseverance, objectivity etc and meet some of
the finest scientists of the world in the third zone. You are invited to join and be a part of this community.
Gallery 2: Basic Science
Explore how the branches of basic science namely: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science, Computer and Robotics
connects every aspect of our life - from numbers to internet. In the Mathematics zone you will discover how the place
value system and concept of large numbers such as “Lakh & Crore” originated in India, how a strange number known as
“Golden Ratio” appears almost in every corner of nature etc.
The second zone of “Computer Science & Robotics” invites you to explore the different parts of a computer to the
“Amazing variety” of Robots.
Finally in the third zone “Physics - the world of certainties” a set of hands-on exhibits will depict many theories
and famous experiments in real time such as “the proof of Earth’s rotation”, how the conservation of energy and
linear momentum generate some remarkable phenomena like “Super-bounce”, the role of “Friction” in our daily life
and many more.
All together with the help of 35 hands-on and inquiry-based exhibits, this gallery aims to inspire our future
generation of scientists and encourage others to unleash their imagination.
